Alfred Mayerhofer is Austrian. After completing a costume and design apprenticeship at the Hetzendorf Fashion School, he gained international experience. Since 1992, he has worked as a costume and make-up designer for numerous TV films (M – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder) and TV series (Braunschlag), cinema films, musical theatre and drama productions, ballets, music videos and advertising films. He has worked with artists such as Ruth Brauer-Kvam, Axel Ranisch, Lydia Steier, Barry Kosky, David Schalko and Christian Frosch and has worked at Vienna State Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Komische Oper Berlin, Sydney Opera House and Edinburgh International Festival, among others. He received several awards, including the BR-Klassik “Operettenfrosch” in 2023/24 for the most original operetta: Der Vogelhändler, and the German Musical Theatre Award “Best Costume/Make-up Design” in 2015 for Gefährliche Liebschaften (both productions at Gärtnerplatztheater München).
