
Born in Tehran, Hasti Molavian began her musical career as a violinist, performing for several years in various chamber orchestras in Iran. She later studied voice and music theatre under Prof. Rachel Robins at the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen, where she completed a Master’s degree in Voice Performance. During her studies, she was awarded the NRW-Stipendium, the Deutschlandstipendium, and scholarships from the Walter and Charlotte Hamel Foundation. She furthered her training through masterclasses with Andreas Homoki, Angelika Kirchschlager, Anja Harteros, David Freeman, Helen Donath, and Olaf Bär.
A central focus of her artistic work lies in contemporary music. At the Ruhrtriennale, she appeared in Samir Odeh-Tamimi’s Leila und Madschnun and Carl Orff’s Prometheus. She also performed in Helmut Lachenmann’s Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern and appears regularly with the E-MEX-Ensemble.
From 2011 to 2015, she was a member of the opera studio at Oper Dortmund. Between 2015 and 2020, she was part of the ensemble at Theater Bielefeld, where she performed roles including the Second Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Frugola in Il tabarro, Arsamene in Serse, Wellgunde in Das Rheingold, Alcina in Haydn’s Orlando Paladino, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Arcabonne in Bach’s Amadis de Gaule, and Siébel in Faust.
Guest engagements have taken her to venues such as the Berliner Philharmonie, Herkulessaal München, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Philharmonie Essen, Oper Bonn, Theater Osnabrück, Theater Hagen, and Puppentheater Halle.
She has collaborated with renowned directors including Willy Decker, Lemi Ponifasio, Robert Wilson, Claudia Bauer, Kay Voges, Paul-Georg Dittrich, and Laura N. Junghanns.
For her portrayal of Charlotte in Charlotte Salomon (Dalbavie) at Theater Bielefeld, and for her performance in Einstein on the Beach by Philip Glass at Theater Dortmund, she was named Best Singer of the 2016/17 season in North Rhine-Westphalia by the Welt am Sonntag critics’ poll. In 2018, she was awarded the NRW Förderpreis in the category of theatre.
Since the 2020/21 season, Hasti Molavian has been a member of the ensemble at Volkstheater Wien.
