
Till Alexander Körber was born in Tübingen, Germany. Starting in 1986, he studied piano, song accompaniment, and choral conducting at the University of Music in Freiburg im Breisgau. From 1990 to 1995, he studied with Hans Petermandl at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. As a pianist and composer, he has won numerous awards, including an interpretation prize for contemporary music at the Concours Européen in 1989, the first prize from Austro Mechana in 1991, and second and third prizes in the 1997 composition competitions “Guido d’Arezzo” and Mozarteum Salzburg, respectively.
He has performed as a soloist (including with orchestra), as a song accompanist, and as a chamber musician—most notably in close collaboration with violinist Martin Walch. His concert activities have taken him across Europe, as well as to Africa, Asia, and the United States. He performed Beethoven’s Triple Concerto under the baton of Sir Neville Marriner, has premiered numerous works, and has worked with many composers. Körber is a member of the Merlin Ensemble Vienna.
In 2003, he was awarded the Austrian State Scholarship for Composers, and in 2008, the Upper Austrian State Culture Prize for Music. His catalogue of works spans from art songs and chamber music to full-length oratorios.
From 1994 to 2003, Till Alexander Körber taught contemporary piano music at the University of Music in Graz, and has regularly given masterclasses at the Lysenko Conservatory in Lviv, Ukraine. Since 1999, he has led a class in piano and piano chamber music at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz.
