Afshin Varjavandi, choreographic assistant for Imperial Ball by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, is an Iranian-born choreographer, performer, dancer, and educator based in Italy. In 2016, he was the choreographer for Giuseppe Tornatore’s film The Correspondence. He is the artistic director of the international dance festival Gubbio Danz’Week. Afshin’s signature blends urban dance, house and contemporary research, marked by a strong emotional and symbolic layer. His work has been described as innovative and original, delivering powerful impact through distinctive gesture and stage composition. As a recognized teacher, he continues to develop an authentic hybrid language – one that weaves gesture, vision, memory, and social commentary.
