
Robert Meyer was born in Bad Reichenhall and studied acting in Salzburg. In 1974, he joined the ensemble of the Vienna Burgtheater, where he remained for 33 years. He also enjoyed great success in musical theatre, including as Don Quixote and Sancho Panza in Der Mann von La Mancha, Pseudolus in Die spinnen, die Römer!, and Alfred P. Doolittle in My Fair Lady, as well as at the Vienna State Opera and Volksoper Wien as Frosch in Die Fledermaus. In 1997, he was awarded the title Österreichischer Kammerschauspieler (Austrian Chamber Actor).
Since 1993, he has also worked as a director, for example at the Schauspielhaus Graz, the Operettenfestspiele Bad Ischl, and the Burgtheater Wien. From 2007 to 2022, he served as director of the Volksoper Wien. Additionally, he has appeared in numerous films and television productions, including Derrick, Der Alte, Tatort and Der Bulle von Tölz.
