Mnozil Brass

The Gasthaus Mnozil is located in Vienna’s 1st district, directly across from the music university. A stroke of luck: in 1992, seven young brass musicians began meeting regularly at Josef Mnozil’s for informal music sessions. What started as traditional folk music soon evolved into “applied brass music”—played almost entirely by ear, without sheet music—suitable for every occasion: typical brass band music, pop hits, jazz and pop, opera and operetta. Fearless, unapologetic, and always with a good dose of Wiener Schmäh and great finesse.

Today, Mnozil Brass perform around 100 concerts a year worldwide: all across Europe, as well as in Israel, Russia, China, Taiwan, Japan, Canada, the USA, and Australia. They perform in prestigious venues like the Burgtheater in Vienna, KKL Lucerne, Royal Albert Hall in London, Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, Jahrhunderthalle Bochum, the opera houses in Munich, Stuttgart, Wiesbaden, and Leipzig, the Thalia Theater Hamburg, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, and Berliner Ensemble. Naturally, they also fill the Gasthaus Mnozil—but in their own unique way.

Mnozil Brass has an impressive creative output. Since 2000, they have released almost a new production every year: Zimt (2000), Smoke (2001), Ragazzi (2002), Seven (2004), Das Gelbe vom Ei (2007), Magic Moments (2009), Mnozil spielt Mnozil (2010), Blofeld (2012), Happy Birthday (2013), Hojotoho (2013), Yes YES YES (2015), CIRQUE (2017) (directed by Philippe Arlaud, choreography by Virginie Roy), GOLD (2019), PHOENIX (2021), Jubelei (2023), Strau$$ (2025).
