Gob Squad is a seven-headed monster, a multinational arts collective with seven bosses, a patchwork family, a Berlin institution, and a living social utopia. Since 1994, the group has been devising, directing, and performing together at the intersection of theatre, visual art, media, and everyday life.
Constantly in search of beauty within the mundane, Gob Squad brings its work into the heart of urban reality. Their performances blur the lines between everyday experience and staged magic, between banality and idealism, between reality and entertainment—capturing the unpredictable results on video.
Driven by a desire for shared experiences and meaningful encounters, Gob Squad often invites local guests, audience members, and passers-by to move beyond conventional roles. Their work seeks to dissolve barriers of language, class, age, and culture through participatory exploration.
The core members of Gob Squad are Johanna Freiburg, Sean Patten, Sharon Smith, Berit Stumpf, Sarah Thom, Bastian Trost, and Simon Will, supported by a wider pool of collaborating artists.
