Flora Geißelbrecht is a violist, composer, vocalist, and lyricist who moves within—and is moved by—the music of our time.
With multiple academic degrees under her belt, she has become a sought-after and joyful presence in Vienna’s contemporary music, jazz, improvisation, and theatre scenes—currently collaborating with ensembles and institutions such as Studio Dan, the Volkstheater, and the Burgtheater.
In 2022, she was awarded the Berlin Prize for Young Artists and has since toured with her solo programs for viola and voice, where she brings together all her artistic interests and skills into a deeply personal expression.
In her piece for the Klangpfad project, the violist naturally focuses on the delayed third beat characteristic of the Viennese waltz. The specific microtiming—reached and then broken in the composition—creates a distinct sense of physicality. After all, learning to "eiern" properly is an art in itself!
