
Alexander Joel studied piano, composition and conducting in Vienna. After working at the Stadttheater Baden and Klagenfurt, he was invited to conduct at the Volksoper Wien and has been a regular guest there ever since. For many years, conducting engagements have taken him to the most renowned opera houses and concert halls, including the Grand Théâtre de Genève (Rigoletto, Madama Butterfly), the Saxon State Opera Dresden (Faust), the Bavarian State Opera (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), the Royal Danish Opera (Macbeth), the Welsh National Opera (Il trittico), the Hamburg State Opera (Così fan tutte), the Zurich Opera, the Nederlandse Opera and the Malmö Opera. At the Royal Opera House Covent Garden he has conducted Carmen, La traviata, La bohème, Rigoletto and Tosca. He has worked with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Copenhagen Philharmonic, the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, the Duisburg Philharmonic, the WDR Radio Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Montpellier, the Haydn Orchestra Bolzano, the BBC Philharmonic and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.
