Director Anna Bernreitner studied music theater directing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In summer 2011, she founded the artist group OPER RUND UM, which has since set itself the goal of staging opera productions in unusual locations. Over the past ten years, she has produced and staged a wide variety of pieces in extravagant surroundings with OPER RUND UM like „Die Fledermaus“ by Strauss in eight different public swimming pools. Für OPER RUND UM Bernreitner received the Lower Austria Culture Recognition Award in 2017 and the Austrian Music Theater Prize in 2019. She has staged several children’s operas at the Theater an der Wien and repeatedly worked for the WIR SIND WIEN.FESTIVAL. In recent years she has worked for the Opera national de Lorraine, the Opera national de Montpellier, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and the Theater Bielefeld, as well as the Theater Magdeburg, the Tiroler Landestheater and the Theater St. Gallen, where she most recently staged „The Fairy Queen“ by Henry Purcell as an open-air spectacle on the Flumserberge at an altitude of 1400 meters.
She received the Götz-Friedrich-Prize for her production of „Proserpina“ by Wolfgang Rihm with the Neue Oper Wien.
