Axel Ranisch, born in 1983, is originally from Berlin. He studied directing at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf from 2004 to 2011, his films have since been shown at numerous film festivals. He shoots for television, works as an actor, records podcasts and is also a successful writer (debut novel ‘Nacht über Berlin’). In 2013, Axel Ranisch brought The Bear/La voix humaine to the stage of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, since then he has staged operas, operettas and musicals at major theatres in Hanover, Hildesheim, Stuttgart, Lyon and Hamburg. He wrote the libretto for and directed the world premiere of the comic opera George by Elena Kats-Chernin. To mark the 75th anniversary of the Komische Oper Berlin in 2022, he created the theatre's festive gala. Already in 2018, he started creating theatre for young audiences with the production of Konrad oder Das Kind aus der Konservenbüchse, based on Christine Nöstlinger’s book, at the Theater an der Parkaue.
