Der Nino aus Wien

Nino aus Wien, Austrian singer-songwriter and writer, has been shaping the German-speaking music scene with his unique sound and what he calls Hirschstettner Soul. He performs across the German-speaking world, from Arena Wien to the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. He has been nominated more than seven times for the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards and received the award in the “Alternative Pop/Rock” category in 2016.

The AusWienBand has remained unchanged since 2009: Nino aus Wien (guitar, vocals), Raphael Sas (guitar, keys, vocals), pauT (bass, clarinet, vocals), and David Wukitsevits (drums, vocals).

Nino has achieved numerous chart placements, including several number-one hits on the FM4 charts. In addition to his musical output, he writes music for theatre and co-curated the Vienna Popfest in 2018. The magazine Falter has called him “the best young singer-songwriter in the country” and “the Bob Dylan of Praterstern.” Nino and his music have become part of Vienna’s cultural identity.

"It was a long year because I was so slow" is how he opens his new album endlich Wienerlieder (released 15 March 2024, Medienmanufaktur Vienna). The album is dedicated to Nino’s grandfather Rudolf Mandl, a Wienerlied singer. For Nino, it is “a tribute to my family connection to the Viennese music tradition.” Whether Nino will now travel from Heuriger to Heuriger to offer his art of song to cheerful gatherings cannot be promised. But what the listener will definitely experience is a profound reflection on the life of the artist — across various eras. The album shares a certain kinship with Nino’s Cookbook Take 16 and features special guests, including a duet with Ernst Molden in a Viennese version of La Paloma, an ode to the people of Vienna.
