Elena Gertcheva graduated with honors in piano and chamber music from the Academy of Music in Sofia and furthered her education through master classes in conducting. She began her career as a successful teacher at the Academy of Music in Plovdiv (Bulgaria) and worked as both a pianist and choral conductor. In addition, she has authored several music education publications and developed her own teaching system, MusikOptimaLearning, which she applies in her studio Musica Orphicus.
She moved to Austria in 1992 and worked at the Landestheater Niederösterreich until 2005 as a solo accompanist, choir director, and conductor.
Elena Gertcheva continues to work regularly as a répétiteur and accompanist for artists from Vienna’s leading music theatres. She is frequently engaged for rehearsals and musical direction at various Austrian stages, thanks to her extensive repertoire that spans the full spectrum of musical theatre — from opera and operetta to musicals and cabaret.
