Erwin Steinhauer studied history and German language and literature. He founded the cabaret Keif with Erich Demmer in 1974 and was active as a political cabaret artist on Austrian and German stages until 1992. From the Kabarett Simpl to the Düsseldorfer Kommödchen.
Since 1982 at the Burgtheater, then Theater in der Josefstadt, Volkstheater, Volksoper, Theater der Courage and guest performances at the Berliner Ensemble.
Since 2010, he has been touring the country with his band “Steinhauer und Die Lieben”, devoting himself to music and literature. Currently: For your sake, evergreens by Ralph Benatzky and Hermann Leopoldi in new arrangements. From 2022-2024, together with Andrej Serkov, he presented three Joseph Roth evenings, Der Leviathan, Der Vorzugsschüler and Die Büste des Kaisers. In 2023, he tried to uncover the secret of the pen pal relationship between Marlene Dietrich and Friedrich Torberg: Write. No, don't write.
