Florian Hurler was born in Augsburg and received his training at the Académie de Danse Classique de Monaco, the Ballettzentrum Hamburg, and the Heinz Bosl Foundation in Munich. In 1997, he was awarded the Advancement Award of the City of Augsburg.
From 2000 to 2004, he danced with the Leipzig Ballet under Uwe Scholz, before joining the Wiener Staatsballett in 2004, where he remained until 2013 and was appointed rehearsal director in 2011.
As a choreographer, he has worked with the Bregenzer Festspiele (Kehraus um St. Stephan), Theater an der Wien (Serse), and Wiener Festwochen (JOIN), among others. He regularly creates choreographies for festivals such as the Musikfestival Steyr, where his credits include West Side Story, Cabaret, and Chicago.
In the 2014/15 season, he joined the Volksoper Wien as dance director and assistant choreographer for the ensemble and chorus. At the Volksoper, he has also worked as choreographer and director, with productions including Sweeney Todd, Powder Her Face, Lass uns die Welt vergessen, and Im weißen Rössl (choreography), as well as Aristocats, Nurejews Hund (director and choreography), and La rondine (co-director with Lotte de Beer).
