
Franz Xaver Zach, born in Vienna in 1954, grew up in the USA, Australia and Austria. He studied at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna from 1975 to 1978. After completing his studies, he went to the Staatstheater Stuttgart under the directorship of Claus Peymann, who brought him to Bochum from 1979 to 1986. After a period as a freelance actor in Vienna, Mainz, New York and Frankfurt, among other places, he worked as an actor and director at the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt, the Schauspielhaus Mainz and the Oberhausen Theatre. Here he staged productions including Mutter Courage and Die Goldberg-Variationen by George Tabori. At the Salzburg Festival, he played in Peter Stein's Julius Caesar, among others. This was followed by engagements at Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus (1996 - 2000) and Schauspielhaus Bochum (2000 - 2008) as well as Schauspielhaus Graz from 2009 - 2021.
