inn.wien is not a traditional string orchestra, but a collective of young, classically trained musicians. Founded in November 2020, the ensemble brings together professional artists from the Innsbruck and Vienna regions. Since its inception, inn.wien has established itself as a sought-after musical force within the Austrian music scene.
With courage and conviction, the ensemble challenges classical conventions and moves beyond traditional thinking. inn.wien stands for respectful collaboration and music-making on equal footing, for critical engagement and a constant search for new artistic paths. These values—combined with a high level of musical excellence—enable the ensemble to craft innovative programs and deliver distinctive interpretations.
In flexible formations, inn.wien has performed works such as Bartók’s Divertimento, Brahms’ String Sextets, Schubert’s String Quintet, Mendelssohn’s Octet, and Grieg’s Holberg Suite, as well as numerous world premieres by composers including Hanna Kallestad, Anna Reisigl, Martin Ohrwalder, and others. The ensemble also maintains a close artistic partnership with the jazz trio Drehwerk—where progressive string textures meet original jazz compositions.
In autumn 2024, the ensemble released its first collaborative album of new music with Drehwerk, titled LOST INSIDE.
For the 2024/25 season, inn.wien will present the music theatre production What on Earth! in collaboration with the Wiener Konzerthaus and Jeunesse.
