
Johannes Brömmel, based in Vienna, is a composer born in 1999 in Munich. He studied at the Mozarteum University Salzburg with Reinhard Febel, Johannes Maria Staud, and Achim Bornhöft. He also attended masterclasses with, among others, Salvatore Sciarrino, Chaya Czernowin, Eva Reiter, Francesco Filidei, Michael Jarrell, and Matthew Shlomowitz, developing a broad interest in interdisciplinary work during his studies.
He composes and produces music for ensembles, theater productions, electroacoustic works, and installations, often placing text and voice at the center of his work. His pieces have been performed at various venues, including Kunstforum Wien, KULTUM Graz, ORF Studio Innsbruck, and the Klangspuren Schwaz Festival. He has collaborated with a wide range of ensembles, such as the Riot Ensemble, NAMES (New Arts and Music Ensemble Salzburg), Trio Wirk-Werk, Les Métaboles, Ensemble Multilatéral, OENM (Österreichisches Ensemble für Neue Musik), among others.
In 2024, the theater production Penelope by director Giulia Giammona, for which he created a 60-minute soundtrack, received the Jury Prize at the Körber Studio Junge Regie Festival at Thalia Theater Hamburg. In the same year, he was nominated for the Ö1 Talent Competition – Composition.
