Robert Meyer was born in Bad Reichenhall and studied acting in Salzburg. In 1974, he was engaged by the Burgtheater in Vienna, where he was a member of the ensemble for 33 years. He also enjoyed great success in musical theatre, including as Don Quixote and Sancho Panza (‘The Man of La Mancha’), Pseudolus (‘A Funny Thing Happend On The Way To The Forum.’) and Alfred P. Doolittle (‘My Fair Lady’) as well as at the Vienna State Opera and Volksoper as Frosch (‘Die Fledermaus’). In 1997 he was appointed ‘Österreichischer Kammerschauspieler’. He has also directed since 1993, including at the Schauspielhaus Graz, the Bad Ischl Operetta Festival and the Burgtheater Vienna. From 2007-2022 he was artistic director of the Volksoper Vienna. He has also appeared in numerous films and television productions, including ‘Derrick’, ‘Der Alte’, ‘Tatort’ and ‘Der Bulle von Tölz’.
