
Martin Walch was born in Innsbruck. He studied with Friedrich Mestler, Rudolf Kalup, Sándor Végh, and Michael Schnitzler, and attended masterclasses with Yehudi Menuhin and Nathan Milstein. He is the director of the Merlin Ensemble Vienna and a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
He has performed chamber music with Natalia Gutman, Alexander Rabinovich, and Julian Rachlin, and gives recitals with his duo partner, pianist and composer Till A. Körber. As artistic director of the Merlin Ensemble Vienna, he develops music-theatrical projects in collaboration with dramaturge and director Hermann Beil.
He has worked with actors such as Martin Schwab, Ulrich Matthes, Michael Maertens, Sylvie Rohrer, Peter Matić, Lore Brunner, Andrea Eckert, Karl Markovics, and Manfred Karge.
In 2019, he initiated a joint climate change project with Prof. Harald Lesch.

Martin Walch has given masterclasses at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, the Mozarteum University Salzburg, the National Music Academy in Lviv, and the Music Academy in Sofia.
He has worked with composers including Sofia Gubaidulina, Friedrich Cerha, Thomas Daniel Schlee, Till A. Körber, Michael Mautner, and Christian Muthspiel.
As chamber music partner to N. Gutman, A. Rabinovich, and J. Rachlin, and in recitals with pianist Till A. Körber, he has developed numerous music-theatrical projects with Hermann Beil.
