Tahereh Nourani is a Vienna-based composer and sound artist whose focus lies in electroacoustic and experimental music. Her work explores the potentials of slowness and silence, as well as the connection between sound, text, and video. Using free improvisation, extended playing techniques, amplified objects, and field recordings, she creates reduced, organic, and archaic soundscapes that span a spectrum between ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) and noise.
Nourani is the recipient of a composition grant from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts and Culture (2025), a member of the QMA artist collective (2024), a SHAPE+ artist (2023), and winner of the PhonoECHOES Award for Experimental Sound Art (2021). She has performed at venues and festivals such as Belvedere 21 (AT), RKH (AT), Moers Festival (DE), UH Fest (HU), and Üle Heli Festival (EE). She has composed music for installations, film, theater, contemporary dance, and performance. She studied European classical flute at the University of Art in Tehran and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW), and has been an artist-in-residence at AQB (HU), Casa di Rosa (CH), and Hotel Pupik (AT).
