I, Vasile Marian, was born on April 6, 1958 in Baia-Mare (Transylvania, Romania) and graduated from the local music high school with a degree in clarinet and oboe. I went on to study oboe at the Carl Maria Weber Academy of Music in Dresden under Professors Wolfgang Bemann and Burkhardt Glaetzner, and it should be emphasized that I was already active as a solo oboist in various orchestras (including the Vogtland Orchestra and the Riesa Symphony Orchestra) during my studies in Dresden.
After successfully completing my studies, I often gave concerts with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and the Virtuosi Saxoniae under the direction of Ludwig Güttler. Furthermore, as a member of the Musica Viva Ensemble (conducted by Prof. Udo Zimmermann), I came into contact with contemporary music, which from then on formed an important part of my repertoire.
After moving to the music capital Vienna, I gave up my solo position in the Györ Philharmonic Orchestra and since then I have devoted myself to extensive activities as a chamber musician, orchestral musician and teacher.
Nevertheless, I am primarily active as a soloist, which is reflected in numerous world premieres of pieces dedicated to me as well as CD recordings, radio recordings and television recordings. From 1988 to 1993 I was a member of the Klangforum Wien, but I also work regularly and fruitfully with the Ensemble Wiener Collage, the Ensemble 20. Jahrhundert, the Wiener Mozartakademie, the Österreichische Kammerharmonie, the Orchestra Internationale d`Italia, the Wiener Kammerharmonie and most recently with the Vienna Art Orchestra and several other ensembles and orchestras.
Since 1996 I have also been a member of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien and a professor for oboe at the Schubert Conservatory and at the Hollabrunn Music School in Lower Austria. I also work increasingly with various ensembles in the field of improvised music. I have also made numerous appearances at the Steirischer Herbst festival, the Wien modern festival, Klangbogen Wien and the Dresdner Tage für zeitgenössischer Musik.
In my musical career to date, I have played under renowned conductors and musicians such as Yehudi Menuhin, Arturo Tamayo, Nicholas McGegan, Theodor Guschlbauer, Mstislav Rostopovich, Claudio Abbado, Beat Furrer and many others.
I have also participated in several tours through Spain, France, Malta, Italy, England, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Hungary, the Benelux countries, the Czech Republic, Poland, Japan, China, the USA and the former Soviet Union.
Finally, I would like to point out with particular pride my many years of experience in all branches of oboe music, which extends to a wide-ranging repertoire of works from the Baroque to contemporary music.
I have been an Austrian citizen since 1994.
Married to Dr. Eliza Marian, former member of the Vienna State Opera. From this marriage comes a son, Dr. Victor Marian astrophysicist at the Max Planck Institute Heidelberg in Germany.
