Eric Wurtz began his career as a graphic artist in the field of press and publications before turning to lighting design in 1983. His distinctive approach has led to collaborations with some of the most innovative choreographers in contemporary dance, including Lucinda Childs, François Chaignaud and Cecilia Bengoléa, Régine Chopinot, Philippe Decouflé, La Ribot, and Mathilde Monnier, with whom he has worked on her entire body of work.
In theatre and opera, he has collaborated with directors such as Maurice Bénichou, Philippe Genty, and Alain Maratrat. His international work includes projects with Boyzie Cekwana, Bouchra Ouizguen, and John Scott.
Wurtz is also known for his work in large-scale public and cultural events, including:

– Fashion shows for Junya Watanabe and Nino Cerruti (Spring/Summer Collection, 1995)
– Toki Shisui, part of Giappone in Italia 95/96, Naples

In the field of urban lighting design, he collaborated with Anne Bureau on the illumination of the city of Le Port on La Réunion Island in 2000. He also worked with the design agency Plan Créatif and RATP on the lighting of tram stations in western Paris in 1995.
In 1997, Eric Wurtz was awarded a residency through the Nusantara Programme by AFAA (Association Française d’Action Artistique), under the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and spent time as an artist-in-residence in Indonesia.
