Peter Gillmayr was born in Linz and studied instrumental pedagogy and concert violin at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz and the Mozarteum in Salzburg. As an orchestral musician, he has played in the “Arena di Verona” orchestra, the Upper Austrian Chamber Orchestra and the “Aktuell” orchestra under Welser-Möst.
As a chamber musician, he regularly performs in a wide variety of formations and genres with artists such as Julia Stemberger, Fritz Karl, Cornelius Obonya, Paul Gulda, Erwin Steinhauer, Nina Proll, Gregor Bloèb, Timna Brauer, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Helmut Jasbar and Karl Markovics at renowned festivals. He is concertmaster of the orchestra “Ensemble Sonare Linz”, the “Österreichische Salonisten”, “Streichquartett Sonare Linz” and the "OÖ. Concert Schrammeln".
He runs a successful class for violin, viola and chamber music at the Landesmusikschule Grieskirchen/OÖ. He also conducts the “Hausruck Philharmonie” and the “Salonorchester Bad Schallerbach”.
As founder and director of the “Musiksommer Bad Schallerbach”, he conceived around 40 concert series and around 60 word and sound projects, and was responsible for around 150 in-house productions. In recognition of these achievements, Dr. Pühringer was awarded the title of “Consultant for the Cultivation of Music” by the Upper Austrian provincial government in 2006 and the Provincial Medal of Culture in 2014.
