Programme |  Strauss with a view

Description

On the first weekend in August, the tree circle “Am Himmel”, an eleven-hectare area in Vienna's Döbling district, is transformed into a Strauss stage with a spectacular view of the entire city.

Opening

Join Johann Strauss for an unconventional look at the present and the future. The performers have no truck withl genre boundaries and categorisations. The Hip-Hop Duo EsRap and pianist Marino Formenti reinterpret Viennese operetta. Mandola meets cello for everything from heavy rock to Strauss miniatures, the Schmusechor (Snuggles Choir) dances its queer/feminist version of the Blue Danube. These artists all reflext the soundtrack of the age we live in, an age closer to Strauss' time than we may think.

Day 2

On the 2nd day, we invite you to a musical hike “up to heaven” as part of our sound trail and provide cultural enjoyment around Johann Strauss for the whole family at the Ö1 KulturPicknick.
