Strauss mit Aussicht, Day 2
On the first weekend in August, the tree of life circle “Am Himmel” - an eleven-hectare natural area in Vienna's Döbling district - is transformed into an atmospheric Strauss stage with a spectacular panoramic view over the city.
After the opening of the “Am Himmel” festival, the second day is all about cultural enjoyment for the whole family. The day begins with a musical hike to the "Lebensbaumkreis" and ends with the atmospheric Ö1 KulturPicknick.
Join Johann Strauss for an unconventional look at the present and the future. The performers have no truck with traditional genre boundaries and categorisations. The Hip-Hop Duo EsRap and pianist Marino Formenti reinterpret Viennese operetta. Mandola meets cello for everything from heavy rock to Strauss miniatures, the Schmusechor (Snuggles Choir) dances its queer/ feminist version of the Blue Danube. These artists all reflect the soundtrack of the age we live in, an age closer to Strauss’ time than we may think.
